Announces alternate format for select events
The American Motorcycle Association has announced an alternate two-day format for select 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing events. The AMA created the condensed weekend schedule with input from teams, manufacturers and promoters as a way to help mitigate racing costs. Exactly how the usual three-day schedule will be condensed into two days is not yet clear, nor is the number of events that will feature the alternate format.

A story on amaproracing.com says we can be sure that next year’s race at New Jersey Motorsports Park will feature the new two-day format. Brad Scott, chief operating officer and GM of NJMP, said, “New Jersey Motorsports Park is excited to be part of this new weekend format, which will allow our fans to take part in non-stop racing excitement condensed into two days. This unique doubleheader race weekend will be packed with both on-track and off-track activities from Saturday morning to late Sunday afternoon.”

Michael Gentry, chief operating officer of AMA Pro Racing, also commented on the alternate format: “Although the weekend format will be condensed at certain events in 2014, fans can still expect the same great racing action and entertainment value from our valued promoter partners. We’re thankful for the valuable input we have received from our major stakeholders as we have formulated this plan, and look forward to debuting the new format to fans next season.”
