Dunlop dumps Yamaha, back on BMW for TT

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

In a dramatic last-minute decision, Michael Dunlop has backed out of his contract with Yamaha in favour of familiar BMWs for the imminent Isle of Man TT Races.

The Ulsterman will now be aboard Buildbase BMW machinery for this Saturday’s Superbike race, as well as next Friday’s Senior TT race. He’ll also be riding his own MD Racing BMW in Monday’s Superstock race, and will run his MD Racing Honda for both Supersport races.

“I would like to thank Milwaukee Yamaha for their support in bringing me into their team and I am genuinely sorry to be making this decision,” Dunlop said, “but unfortunately I don’t think there is enough time left with the sessions we’ve already lost at the TT to be truly competitive and get the bike to the level we need in order to win races here.”

Dunlop will have just two practice sessions to get up to speed on the Beemer before Saturday’s race.
