Recall: Triumph Tiger 800, Sprint GT

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Triumph has recalled their 2011 − 2012 Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles for three different issues, one of which also affects their 2011 − 2012 Sprint GT model. Two of the problems have to do accessories. The optional centrestand  for the Tiger is defective, as is the mounting system for the accessory top box for both the Tiger and the Sprint GT. The third recall is for a stalling issue with the Tiger’s 800 cc 3-cylinder engine. Full details from Transport Canada are below.

Transport Canada Recall # 2011316

Manufacturer Recall # SB430

Models: 2011 − 2012 Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC

Recall Details

On certain Triumph Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles equipped with an accessory center stand, the stand return spring may fracture and fail. This could allow the center stand to contact the road surface while the vehicle is underway, which could distract the rider and result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the center stand spring.

Transport Canada Recall # 2011317

Manufacturer Recall # SB427

2011 − 2012 Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC , 2011 − 2012 Sprint GT

Recall Details

On certain Triumph Tiger 800, Tiger 800 XC and Sprint GT motorcycles, the accessory top box may not be adequately affixed to its carriage and could detach from the vehicle. A top box separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a locking clip onto the top box latch mechanism.

Transport Canada Recall # 2011318

Manufacturer Recall # SB431

2011 − 2012 Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC

Recall Details

On certain Triumph Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles, the engine could stall while the vehicle is decelerating. Engine stalling would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will update the engine management software.
