Riding a motorcycle is one of the most exhilarating things we do as Canadians. Now that the good weather is here, motorcycle riders are enjoying our beautiful country or simply getting to work across Canada. Everyone should get where they’re going and return safely. Please look out for motorcycles as you drive and help everyone arrive to ride again another day.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Canada!
As the weather warms up and the open roads call, more motorcycles will be cruising through our communities. This month is dedicated to promoting safety for motorcyclists and raising awareness among all road users. With both riders and drivers sharing the road, it’s essential that we all take extra precautions to prevent collisions and protect lives.
Remember, the slogan for this month is simple but powerful: Look Twice, Save a Life. Whether you’re behind the handlebars or the wheel, a little extra attention can make all the difference in ensuring everyone gets home safely.
Drivers’ Tips for Motorcycle Safety Month
Look Twice, Save a Life – Always check your blind spots and mirrors before changing lanes or turning.
Give Space – Motorcycles need a full lane to operate safely. Don’t crowd or tailgate.
Signal Early and Clearly – Sudden moves can endanger riders; predictable driving saves lives.
Stay Alert – Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see, especially at intersections and during lane changes.
FOR RIDERS
As the riding season kicks into gear, it’s the perfect time to refresh your road safety habits. Whether you’re a new rider or a seasoned motorcyclist, here are a few key tips to help keep you safe on the road this season.

Gear Up for Safety: AGAT (ALL Gear, at ALL Times)
Ensure you’re properly equipped with all required safety gear, including helmets, gloves, jackets, pants, and boots.
Be Visible: Use reflective gear and ensure you head lights are working.
Inspect Your Bike: Check tires, brakes, lights, and fluids before every ride.
Mind Your Speed: Follow speed limits and adjust for weather conditions.
Stay Alert: Watch for road hazards and be mindful of other drivers.
Ride Sober: Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Communicate: Use signals and brake light to show your intentions on the road.
Take a Safety Course: Regularly refresh your skills through certified safety courses.
Know Your Limits: Ride within your skill level and avoid risky situations.
Be Aware of the 4 D’s: Dangerous driving kills. Stay vigilant and avoid driving while drowsy, drunk, drugged, or distracted.
Let’s ride responsibly and stay alert—safety is a shared responsibility for everyone on the road!
