WSBK: Biaggi Can’t Shut Door on Haslam

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Max Biaggi took the pole position at the Nurburgring in Germany this weekend, but wasn’t able to completely shut the door on his closest rival Leon Haslam and lock up the championship. Neither rider made it to the podium in a crash filled, restarted race 1 that saw Irishman Jonathan Rea cruise to his fourth victory of the season ahead of Carlos Checa and Cal Crutchlow, but Haslam did make it to the third step of  rostrum in race two, finishing  8.060 seconds adrift of winner Noriyuki Haga  and 4.909 seconds behind Rae (the top points collector of the day). But though Biaggi  only managed fourth and fifth place finishes respectively in the races,  the veteran Italian still carries a 58 point advantage over Haslam with only 100 points up for grabs in the final two rounds this year.

The the next WSBK race takes place Sept. 26 at Imola, Italy.
