Szoke secures CSBK title

Jordan Szoke (Mopar Express Lane / BMW Motorrad S1000RR) secured his 10th Canadian Superbike title during a thrilling season-ending doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last weekend.

The 36-year-old Lynden, Ontario, rider capped the season with a pair of wins, making Szoke a perfect seven-for-seven this year. On Saturday Szoke narrowly beat out Kenny Riedmann (GE Capital / Sturgess Cycle Kawasaki ZX-10R), who finished a scant 0.272 seconds back, while Jodi Christie (Accelerated Technologies / Honda Canada CBR 1000RR SP) finished third, just 0.632 seconds behind.

Sunday’s race offered more of the same, the top three separated by less than half a second. Szoke, who was trailing Riedmann at the start of the final lap, took the win by 0.402 seconds, while Alex Welsh (Hindle Exhaust Yamaha YZF-R1M) pipped Riedmann for second.

“It’s one thing to win a race,” Szoke said after Sunday’s race, “it’s another thing to win a perfect season. What an amazing feat for the whole team. Most of the races this year have been wicked just like this one. I’m looking forward to repeating this next year.”
