It was bound to happen. Development of electric motorcycles may take a large step forward as the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency—the same U.S. agency that spawned the Internet—looks at the creation of a quiet bike for use by U.S. armed forces in dangerous places.
DARPA has granted a small business innovation research grant to Logos Technologies for the development of a hybrid-electric motorcycle that can run nearly silently and negotiate rough ground.
Logos’s quiet, multifuel hybrid-electric power system will be mated with an off-road motorcycle platform from BRD, a San Francisco producer of electric motorcycles. According to a story in pddnet.com, the result should be a very quiet vehicle that uses two-wheel drive and with its multi-fuel power source can be used to generate electricity for other uses.
