Harley recalls for clutch failure

Nearly 30,000 bike affected
Harley-Davidson has recalled about 29,000 new motorcycles and issued “Do not ride” notices to owners and “Do not deliver” notices to dealers for the affected models.

The recall affects 2014 Touring and other models with hydraulic clutches. In some cases, the clutch system may fail to disengage the clutch, which could cause a loss of control, says Harley.

The recall is for 25,185 Touring models with the FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE, and FLHRSE designations and 3,861 Softail CVO and Trike models with FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE, and FLSTNSE designations, all built between May 3 and Oct. 14.

The company says owners of affected models should contact their dealers. “The dealer will pick up, inspect and make the necessary repairs at no cost to the owner,” Harley said in a press release. The repair itself should take no more than an hour, the company said.
