ONE DUCATI, TWO RIDERS, 24 HOURS: SABBA AND BONI SET ANOTHER GUINNESS WORLD RECORD

By: Published on 25 October 2026

The Italian record hunters covered 1,448.732 km (900.2 miles) on a completely standard Ducati Desmo450 EDS, sharing one bike through a full day and night on dirt. Their second record together adds a new chapter to Ducati’s centenary year

A year after their first Guinness World Records success together, Silvio Sabba and Valerio Boni have done it again. This time they swapped the Ducati Scrambler for a Desmo450 EDS, took on a rough dirt circuit near Milan and kept riding for 24 hours. The result: more than 900 miles in 24 hours, 1,448.732 kilometres, 1,588 laps and a new, officially ratified Guinness World Record in the team motocross distance category.

The attempt took place on 1–2 October 2026 at Rodano, just outside Milan. There was no specially prepared machine, no second bike waiting in the pits and no extra lighting for the night stint. Just one production-spec Ducati, two very determined riders and a track that turned out to be considerably tougher than it looked.

An unexpected way to celebrate 100 years of Ducati

Their first joint record, set on 23–24 September 2025 riding a Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle, came shortly before Ducati’s centenary year. The latest feat arrives during 2026, as the Bologna manufacturer celebrates its 100th anniversary. Not a bad way to mark the occasion.

The idea of going off-road was first floated at the end of the Scrambler challenge. At the time it sounded rather like a joke: what if they did the whole thing again, only on a proper dirt bike? Before long, the suggestion had become a serious project, put together on a remarkably tight schedule.

The bike was Ducati’s recently introduced Desmo450 EDS, an enduro model developed from the Desmo450 MX motocrosser. Its 449.6cc desmodromic single-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox; other enduro-specific details include revised Showa suspension settings, an 18-inch rear wheel and an 8.5-litre fuel tank. But one feature mattered more than the rest: unlike the MX, the EDS comes with a full-LED lighting system. That was essential for a record attempt running well into the night.

One bike, straight out of the showroom

Guinness World Records rules would have allowed the riders to use two motorcycles, one each. Sabba and Boni chose to share a single Desmo450 EDS instead, leaving it in standard trim throughout. They even resisted fitting auxiliary spotlights, relying entirely on the original headlight after dark.

That decision had consequences. The course was flat and had none of the jumps associated with a motocross circuit, but its ruts, holes and bumps became especially awkward when visibility dropped. The bike, on the other hand, simply got on with the job.

It completed the full 24 hours without a repair. Apart from refuelling, the only planned mechanical stop was for an oil and filter change and a general inspection. The team finished the service in under 17 minutes, with the record clock ticking all the while. No performance, endurance or range-enhancing modifications were needed.
