Polaris buys Brammo

Global powersports powerhouse Polaris Industries has been an investor and partner with Brammo, manufacturer of electric vehicle technology – notably Enertia and Empluse motorcycles – since 2011. However, now the two companies have even closer ties.

Polaris recently acquired Brammo’s electric motorcycle business and has ramped up its investment to enable Brammo to focus on design, development and integration of electric vehicle powertrains. Moving forward, a Polaris press release states, the two companies will “market a variety of electric vehicles utilizing Brammo’s electric drivetrain technology.” Also, Polaris will begin manufacturing electric motorcycles in the second half of 2015 at its production facility in Sprit Lake, Iowa.

“We have enjoyed our involvement with Brammo Motorcycles over the past three years,” said Scott Wine, Polaris chairman and CEO, “and our excitement about their electric drivetrain technology has increased commensurate with their improvements in cost and performance.”
