WSBK: Crutchlow Triumphs at Silverstone

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Cal Crutchlow got the first and second World Superbike wins of his career on home turf at Silverstone in England this past weekend. Heading an all-British podium on each occasion, the Yamaha Sterilgarda rider also set a new lap record on Sunday.

“I would rather have had one earlier in the year and one today, but we’ve been fighting for this all year and here it is,” said Crutchlow about his double victory.

Jonathan Rea (Ten Kate Honda) and Leon Haslam (Alstare Suzuki) joined Crutchlow on the podium in race 1. Rae duplicated his second place finish in race 2, while Haslam settled for fourth behind fellow Briton Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia).

Championship leader Max Biaggi had a somewhat lacklustre weekend at Silverstone, managing only a fifth and sixth place finish respectively, which allowed the Aprilia Alitalia rider’s nearest contender, Haslam, to chip 7 points away from his lead and reduce the margin to 60.

Three rounds remain in the series, the next one taking place on September 5 at the Nürburgring in Germany.
