Triumph announces new Speed Triples

Triumph Motorcycles recently announced the latest versions of its iconic naked roadster, the Speed Triple, in the form of the 2016 Speed Triple R and Speed Triple S.

Key updates include a new 1,050 cc inline three-cylinder engine, which Triumph says has 104 “new developments” (far too many to cover here) and increased torque throughout the rev range. The latest Triples also get riding modes, switchable ABS and traction control, revised styling with new headlamps and bodywork, and Brembo monobloc calipers as standard fare. The R receives a belly pan, carbon bodywork inserts and front mudguard, billet finishes, and Öhlins suspension all around. The S comes in black or red, the R in white or graphite. For more details, visit Triumph’s website.

Triumph says the revised Triples are “designed to be true to the Speed Triple DNA, delivering the perfect balance of performance, handling, capability and character.” In our experience, nothing is perfect – but, on paper, the latest Speed Triples do look very good. We’ll have to test them on the road to be sure.
