Zero, a leading manufacturer of electric motorcycles, has added two new models to its 2016 product range: the FXS and DSR.
The FXS is a supermoto-styled streetbike boasting, according to Zero, 70 lb-ft of nearly instantaneous torque and up to 44 hp. Considering its claimed curb weight is less than 300 pounds, that’s a recipe for fun. Suspension is fully adjustable, 17-inch alloy rims are wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires and the FXS has ABS. The power pack is modular, meaning it can be recharged on or off the bike.
The DSR is an evolution of Zero’s DS dual sport model that has more power and torque for “max adventure.” How much more? According to Zero, 56 percent more torque (106 lb-ft, to be exact) and 25 percent more power. Suspension is by Showa and ABS is by Bosch. “The Zero DSR is more than ready for maximum adventure,” says Zero, “whether it’s in the city or places beyond.”
Electric motorcycle technology is constantly advancing and the bikes are becoming more mainstream, but they still don’t come cheap. MSRP for the ZF6.5-powered FXS is $14,287, while a ZF13.0-powered DSR plus a power tank will run you $24,270. (Less expensive versions with lower capacity power packs are available for both models.)
