Daytona Beach, Florida, was the site of the season-starting AMA Pro Flat Track doubleheader late last week. Stevie Bonsey rode a perfect race in Thursday’s GNC1 main to take the win, while last year’s champ Jared Mees took second, a scant 0.123 seconds behind. Kenny Coolbeth Jr. rounded out the podium. Canadian Doug “Fresh” Lawrence rode to a solid ninth on the night.

“I’m on top of the world right now,” said Bonsey. “It’s been a real struggle to get here but the hard work has finally paid off. I’m hungry now and these guys are tough.”

Coolbeth stole the show in the following night’s GNC1 main. He started from second on the grid, took the lead on lap two and never looked back, routing the field by 6.474 seconds. Brandon Robinson finished second, while Sammy Halbert took third.

“This is a truly amazing feeling that I have right now,” said Coolbeth, “and I can’t thank my team enough for helping me to get to where I am today.”
