Supermoto race honours Simoncelli

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

The late Marco Simoncelli, a much loved MotoGP rider who died after an accident in the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix, is remembered each year with a charity supermoto event. This year former MotoGP and World Superbike star Max Biaggi took top honours at Latina, Italy, alongside teammate Mauno Hermeunen. Finishing 40 seconds adrift in the 58-lap endurance race was Andrea Dovizioso and Thomas Chareyre, with Leon Haslam and Luca Minutilli rounding out the podium.

Before the main event a special MotoGP versus WSBK race was held. Biaggi, Haslam, Christian Iddon and Niccolo Canepa represented WSBK, while Dovizioso, Mattia Pasini, Nic Antonelli and Matteo Ferrari were on hand for MotoGP. Iddon took the win ahead of Dovizioso and Biaggi.
