2008 GS Challenge

Following the success of the inaugural edition of the Quebec GS Challange, Montreal-based Moto Internationale Motorrad has decided to once again host the skills test aimed at owners of BMW’s GS series motorcycles.

The three-day event to be held from September 19th to 21st is limited to 100 riders and will be held in the same location as 2007, at Pouvoirie du Lac Beauregard in the heart of the Hautes-Laurentides, Quebec.

Last year’s event attracted more than 40 BMW owners, from as far away as Ireland and Germany. The bikes used were representative of the entire GS range, from an R80GS to the current R1200GS, including single cylinder F models. BMW Motorrad Canada was also on hand to showcase their G650 Xchallenge, Xcountry and HP2 Enduro, giving participants an opportunity to experience the very latest BMW off-road models.

The format for this year will include a 37 mile forest course; slow-speed races on a mud course; and trials sessions with water crossings, mud, holes and sand. The courses will be divided into two categories: a basic one for beginner and intermediate riders, and a more challenging one for advanced riders. The focus on the event is on teamwork as well as individual skills with prizes for the winning team and for individual events.

The 2008 GS Challenge is being promoted by Advantix Inc., who also organize on and off-road riding skills programs for BMW owners. They hope to attract participants from outside of Canada by making BMWs available to rent for the weekend, and matching lone registrants with other motorcyclists so as to form a team.
