Chris Depner and Corey Lawson are living the dream. After opening their custom bike shop No. 9 Cycles in Langley, BC just last month, metal fabricator Depner and custom painter Lawson are rushing to finish their first commission in time for the Vancouver Motorcycle Show in Abbotsford later this month.
Depner describes the motorcycle he’s building for a Langley longshoreman as a bobber-style bike featuring a shovel-head motor, springer front end, and white-wall tires.
“It should be done for the show,” say Depner, then clarifies, “That’s two weeks away. It’ll be done.”
The duo, who’s goal is to create “old-school custom bikes with today’s technology,” have long dreamt of their own shop, but for now still hold on to their day jobs and relegate work at No. 9 Cycles to evenings and weekends. Depner notes though that they’re already meeting with their next customer this week to discuss details for another custom build.
The Vancouver Motorcycle Show runs Jan. 21-24, at the Tradex Centre at the Abbotsford International Airport, where along with the aforementioned bobber, the No. 9 Cycles boys will have their personal bikes on display, as well as a line of custom painted helmets for sale.
