CHALLENGER LS2
LS2 is the first helmet company to be developed in China, according to the company’s website; it was started in 1990 by Arthur Liao with the equivalent of about $500 and a working space of 600 square feet. The company grew rapidly, and in 2007 began work on a new brand, LS2 (an abbreviation of “Liao’s System”).
The LS2 Challenger full-face helmet retails for $329.99 in Canada, is distributed by Kimpex, and was designed with inputs from MotoGP riders. It’s available in several colour schemes.
SCORPION EXO VORTEX AIR JACKET
The combination of large gauge mesh and abrasion-resistant “Rhino-Mesh” lets the Vortex Air flow 30 percent more air while providing more protection from road rash than typical mesh jackets. Polyester reinforcements are placed at the shoulders, elbows, and lower back for more impact abrasion resistance, and CE Level 1 armour is at the shoulders and elbows, while a high density back protector can be upgraded to Scorpion’s CE Level 2 back armour, should you choose to spend the bucks. The jacket goes for $259.99 and is distributed by Importations Thibault.
GAERNE STELVIO DRYTECH BOOTS
The Stelvios are sporty touring boots, with a leather upper, Drytech waterproof membrane, and lightweight microfibre on the front and rear for flexibility and comfort. Ankle protectors are included, and the lateral closure system uses a single buckle plus Velcro strap for easy on-and-off. A rubber sole gives good traction on the ground and on the pegs. Distributed by Importations Thibault and retailing for $319.99.
