BMW Motorrad, the Motor Wereken’s motorcycle division, is reporting their highest sales ever for a first quarter. Worldwide, 24,373 machines have reportedly been sold in the first three months of 2012, a 5.5% increase (1,264 more units)over Q1 2011.

Husqvarna is part of BMW now. They report worldwide sales of 2,642 motorcycles for the first quarter of 2012, an increase of 36.2% (702 machines) over the same period last year.

BMW attributes the sales increase to their revised model line up and development of markets in Brazil, Australia and the USA. The market in Europe is still weak for BMW.

BMW may serve as a model for other manufacturers. They have continually added new models, even in weak economic conditions. Judging by their self-published sales figures, BMW is poised to emerge from the global recession in a strong position.
