Yamaha Begins Super Ténéré Strip Tease

Yamaha has slowly begun teasing the European market with a trickle of information about the new 1200cc parallel twin Super Ténéré.

Their press release for the new bike contains a silhouette revealing little more than an R1-like headlight design. Twin lights are side-by-side, rather than stacked as on the 660 Ténéré.

Also noticeable is boxy off-road-style luggage, leading us to believe that the bike is designed to compete head to head with BMW’s R1200GS, rather than the more road-oriented Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Yamaha has disclosed that the Super Ténéré is shaft driven and comes with 3-mode linked ABS brakes,  ride-by-wire throttle, switchable engine maps, traction control and side- mounted radiators.

Indications are that the new machine will be unveiled in the old world later this year, though no word on if or when it’ll be available in Canada.
