Like Ducati did with their new Multistrada, Yamaha's first official photo of their new Super Ténéré reveals little more than the headlights.

Yamaha has slowly begun teasing the European market with a trickle of information about the new 1200cc parallel twin Super Ténéré.

Their press release for the new bike contains a silhouette revealing little more than an R1-like headlight design. Twin lights are side-by-side, rather than stacked as on the 660 Ténéré.

Also noticeable is boxy off-road-style luggage, leading us to believe that the bike is designed to compete head to head with BMW’s R1200GS, rather than the more road-oriented Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Yamaha has disclosed that the Super Ténéré is shaft driven and comes with 3-mode linked ABS brakes,  ride-by-wire throttle, switchable engine maps, traction control and side- mounted radiators.

Indications are that the new machine will be unveiled in the old world later this year, though no word on if or when it'll be available in Canada.
